At its AGM in early July this year BFWG was delighted to present an Honorary Membership to Professor Emerita Joyce Goodman MBE.

Joyce Goodman is Professor of History of Education at the University of Winchester, where she has filled a range of roles, including Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health and Social Care, and Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer.  She is also a research associate at CERLIS (Centre de recherche sur les liens sociaux), a Research Centre of the University of Paris.

Joyce has published widely on women and education.  Her books include Women and Education: Major Themes in Education (Routledge, 2011, 4 volumes), with Jane Martin, and Girls’ Secondary Education in the Western World (Palgrave, 2010/2014), with James Albisetti and Rebecca Rogers, which was republished in 2019 in a Greek translation.

In addition to honorary membership of the BFWG, Joyce was awarded an MBE for services to higher education. She is also an honorary member of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education and of the European Educational Research Association.
