Talk by Alys Blakeway on Charlotte M Yonge

We are please to welcome back one of our own, Alys Blakeway, who will give us a talk on Charlotte M Yonge, Hampshire’s rediscovered Victorian bestseller.

Given her audience, Alys will place special emphasis on her wide-ranging educational activism, both formal and informal. Charlotte’s activities ranged from teaching in the village school, to presiding over two essay societies, volunteering for two national organisations, and much more. She will also look at how she promoted education and self improvement through her novels and journalism.
